Live MMA Returns to the Palace!

2 COUNTRIES

1 SCORE TO SETTLE

Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Michigan

When the final score was read last April at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Team Canada had dominated Team USA at Donofrio Entertainment’s “2 Countries 1 Cage” mixed martial arts event.

This time, Team USA will be back, better than ever, and looking for revenge!

Featuring some of the best new MMA fighters from The United States and Canada, 2 COUNTRIES, 1 SCORE TO SETTLE will be promoter Joseph Donofrio, of Donofrio Entertainment’s follow-up to his wildly successful inaugural MMA event.

“There were more than 5000 people at the last event and it was spectacular. But ever since that night, the fighters from the US have been begging me to give them another shot at the Canadians. So that’s why I’ve decided to do it again. This one will be all about Team USA restoring their honor.” MORE

Commentary on MMA History... as it's Happening

A PROMOTER WHO REALLY CAN

by Charles Jay

The International Fight League (IFL) is either dead or dying - depending on
who you talk to. What they're doing and how they're doing it clearly hasn't
worked. But maybe the team concept works better the way Donofrio
Entertainment is doing it.

At the Palace of Auburn Hills, outside Detroit, which might indeed wind up
hosting the NBA Finals again this year, promoter Joseph Donofrio is putting
on his "2 Countries, 1 Cage" event on June 28. It's Team USA against Team
Canada, and while it may not answer any age-old questions about which
country is better, it still offers a taste of what it's like to fight for a
team when there is truly something on the line.

Actually, we should mention that one of these events has happened already -
on April 26, Team Canada emerged victorious, so Team USA wants a little
revenge, and the fans - 5000 of them, which in case you're not aware is
pretty damn good for a local MMA show - have essentially mandated it be
brought back.

Twenty fights are on the agenda for this next promotion, which is probably
going to be better than the first one. This is not a big pay-per-view show,
or even a little pay-per-view show. These are promoters trying to build a
local fan base in the Detroit area, brick by brick, or, to use the analogy
that is indigenous to the area, part by part by part. In doing so, they're
pulling out all the stops for this one, with a full schedule of
pyrotechnics, 100-foot catwalks, heavily-decorated "escorts" who will take
each fighter to the cage. MORE

Mixed Martial Arts Show Entertains Palace Crowd

The poet and author Maya Angelou once wrote the best-selling book, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."

That's fine, but can somebody tell me why the caged bird sings?

Is it because of the bird seed? The immaculate perch? A safe haven from that bad ol' puddy cat?

While I don't know why the caged bird sings, I do know why the caged man fights. It's because of pride and determination, but mostly because the other guy in the cage is trying to rip his head off. MORE

Donofrio Entertainment Ignites the Palace of Auburn Hills

The Palace of Auburn Hills and Donofrio Entertainment of Detroit hosted a hyped-up show April 5, 2008. This mixed martial arts event called “2 Countries 1 Cage” defined this stellar night with back-to-back performances between Canadian fighters and American fighters.

The event held 12 bouts that made up a three and a half hour time period. Each fighter had training in various martial arts such as jiu-jitsu, submission grappling, kickboxing and boxing. The night was a vulgar display of power. Blood soaked towels and red splattered white mats proved this to be true.

The predominantly American crowd cheered for each American competitor and booed each Canadian. The biggest uproar came when the Canadian National Anthem was sung before the American National anthem. The crowd was not too pleased.

Donofrio upped the ante by hiring the motor city dance team girls to walk each fighter down the walk way. The entrance to the ring held columns of blazing fire for each to competitor to walk through. Nearing the end of the night enormous pyrotechnics kicked in and shook the spirits of the palace.

It is safe to say that Donofrio delivered a superbly done production. The night was jam packed with just the right drama. But it was the caliber of competition and special guest appearances that enhanced the performance and essentially the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Donofrio Entertainment proved to be a forerunner in Michigan’s MMA industry.
